INTRODUCTION
Genetics & Regenerative Medicine research group was established in 2012 as a research centre known as GRMRC. The group rebranded its acronym to ReGEN but maintains the same research group name. ReGEN consists of two main research groups: the Medical Genetics Research Group and the Regenerative Medicine Research Group. The Medical Genetics Research Group focuses on translating genetic research into greater understanding of human genetic diseases, and to generate improved methods for the detection and treatment of genetic disorders. The Regenerative Medicine Research Group concentrates on the area of adult & embryonic stem cells, inflammation & immune rejection, repair & regeneration, tissue engineering, and the development of novel therapeutic strategies. Each of the ReGEN researchers works on one of these research topics, which overlaps considerably. The cross-disciplinary research areas between the scientists will also help to spur great research ideas and ultimately improve the research outcomes. Together, our aim is to contribute our expertise towards excellence in leading genetics and regenerative medicine research in effort to materialize the era of personalized medicine through research that involves an interdisciplinary fundamental-translational-clinical research approach.
VISION
To become a centre of international repute and referral for research in Genetics Medicine as well as Regenerative Medicine.
MISSION
To perform high quality medical genetics and regenerative medicine research towards sustainable human capital building and universal dissemination of scientific discoveries to improve the quality of life.
GOALS
- To uplift the importance of genetics and regenerative medicine in medicine.
- To better contribute in conducting research involving an interdisciplinary fundamental-translational-clinical research approach.
- To strengthen fundamental research as the core for translational research to improve genetic screening and diagnosis, and regenerative therapy based on improved understanding on underlying mechanisms for the onset, progression and inheritance of genetic disorders.
- to better contribute towards the development of diagnostic procedures based on genetic and molecular analysis based on advanced and latest techniques.
- To attract outstanding students to pursue their postgraduate studies in medical genetics and regenerative medicine.
- To train and produce knowledgeable and competitive postgraduates in medical genetics and regenerative medicine.
- To get more opportunities to work with clinical experts and scientists in conducting research that involves interdisciplinary fundamental-translational-clinical research (interdisciplinary fundamental-translational-clinical research) by extending national and international research collaboration within Genetics and Regenerative Medicine.
OUR STRENGTH
- Good international collaboration and networks
- Participation as main and co-authors in high quality publications
- Excellent funding history
- Commendable record of awards and recognition
