Consultation, Cooperation and Collaboration Visits at Arab Saudi


Associate Prof. Dr. Shamsul Bahri Tamrin and  Dr. Ng Yee Guan from Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM had consultation, cooperation and collaboration visits to Riyadh, Jeddah and Jazan, Saudi Arabia from 25th January 2016 to 4th Febrary 2016.

Several discussions were held with the following parties:

i)        Ministry of Labor:

A discussion was held to consult Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) expert opinion in developing national policy on OSH in Saudi Arabia.


Meeting with the Director General of DOSH at Ministry of Labor.

 

ii)      Ministry of Health:

A discussion was held for potential joint-collaboration in developing OSH management system for hospitals nationwide in emergency response preparedness and fire safety. This was following a fire which kills 25 person in Jazan Hospital fire incident late last year.

 

iii)    Al-Esnad Est. Supplies for Military Services

Several discussion was held for potential training and consultancy services for industry. A courtesy visit was also made to various laboratories under Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affair in Riyadh city centre and Ministry of Defense in Kharj, Riyadh.





 

iv)    University of Jazan (Faculty of Public Health and Tropical Medicinel

The curriculum for UPM Bachelor of Science (Environmental and Occupational Health) and Jazan University, Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) was presented/shared/exchanged. A discussion was ensued.

Several follow-up discussion was also held to discuss on the Memorandum of Understanding, follow up activities in the area of research, teaching, students and staff exchange including a Summer School program between Jazan University and UPM.

v)      King Abdul Aziz University

A discussion was held for potential joint research activity applying the research grant funded by the Saudi government – KACST.
