History of Faculty Establishment

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK), Universiti Putra Malaysia was officially established on 1 August 1996 through the merger of the Department of Biomedical Sciences (from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science), the Department of Nutrition and Community Health (from the Faculty of Human Ecology), and the formation of the Department of Medical Sciences. In September 1997, the faculty was renamed as FPSK.

In 2006, FPSK moved into a newly completed complex, providing modern and conducive facilities for teaching and learning. In 2019, the establishment of Universiti Putra Malaysia Teaching Hospital (HPUPM) marked a significant milestone, serving as the main academic hospital for clinical training and medical research. By 2020, FPSK had grown to encompass 23 departments covering various fields in medical and health sciences.

In 2021, FPSK celebrated its 25th anniversary with a Silver Jubilee to honour its achievements in education, research, and healthcare services. In 2023, HPUPM was rebranded as the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Hospital (HSAAS), reflecting its elevated role as a university teaching hospital.

Since its inception, FPSK has grown rapidly to become a leader in education, research, and health services. The faculty is actively involved in academic development, professional consultation, and knowledge advancement across disciplines within medicine and health sciences.

Effective 1 January 2025, a restructuring initiative was implemented to optimise resource sharing through lean management practices. This initiative is expected to significantly benefit UPM in terms of financial efficiency, governance, and institutional performance.
