Background and History of the Otorhinolaryngology - Head And Neck Surgery Department

The Otorhinolaryngology - Head And Neck Surgery (ENT) Unit was started in 1998 as part of the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Universiti Putra Malaysia and became a department ‘ORL-HNS’ in 2020. The mission of the department is to provide world-class ENT services and improve health and quality of life through innovation, excellence in teaching, training and research. The vision of the department is to become a recognized ORL (ENT) Centre at the national and international levels. The ORL-HNS Department plays an important role as a mandatory posting in the UPM MD Program curriculum for undergraduate medical students. The teaching and practical trainings are conducted at HUPM and Serdang Hospital. Among the new initiatives that have been implemented in 2020 is the commencement of ‘ORL’ Clinical services at HPUPM.Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM, is in the process of offering a Master of Surgery (Otorinolaryngology) program to produce competent Otorinolaryngologists and meet the needs of Otorinolaryngology services in Malaysia.

The vision of the Otorhinolaryngology Department is to become a recognized ENT Centre at national and international level.
