Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) was a part of the Department of Human Growth and Development. In its early establishment, the department consisted of three main academic units namely
It was established in 1998 to cater the first batch of clinical students enrolled in faculty. On June 1, 2006, the department was split into two independent departments and renamed into Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Department of Paediatrics.
Since the establishment of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the department performs clinical teaching for Year 4 and Year 5 clinical students enrolled in the medical doctor programme, which takes place at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Kajang Hospital. Owing to its rapid development, in 2006, the department moved to a new faculty building located next to the Serdang Hospital and started to run O&G clinics including various specialized laboratory services such as gynaecology and fetomaternal, infertility test and intrauterine insemination (IUI). These services are conducted at the Reproductive and Research Centre (Level 6, Block D, FMHS, UPM).
Clinical Genetics Unit has been moved to the Department of Biomedical Sciences into force on 1 October 2015.
