ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

Our department is involved in the teaching and learning of undergraduate
and postgraduate academic programmes.


UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Our staff are involved in the following academic programmes:

  • Bachelor of Science (Nutrition and Dietetic)

Among the courses where the members of the department coordinate/involve are:

  • MDR3003 :Introduction to the general pathology
  • MDR3014: Infectious Diseases
  • NUR3101: General pathology, microbiology and parasitology
  • SBP3403: Basic Medical Microbiology
  • SBP3404: Parasitology and Entomology
  • EOH3404: Environmental Parasitology
  • SBP4401: Advanced Medical Microbiology


POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Our department takes in postgraduate research students for Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) levels. Information on the academic requirements, graduate programmes and registration can be obtained from School of Graduate Studies, UPM.

The postgraduate students in the department carry out research in one of
the following fields:

  • Medical Microbiology
  • Medical Parasitology

In addition, our department offers ten postgraduate courses:

  • SMK5401: Medical Microbiology
  • SMK5402: Medical Bacteriology
  • SMK5403: Medical Virology
  • SMK5404: Laboratory Techniques in Medical Microbiology
  • SMK5501: Medical Helminthology
  • SMK 5502: Medical Protozoology
  • SMK5503: Medical Entomology
  • SMK5504: Immunoparasitology
  • SMK5505: Malaria Biotechnology
  • SMK5506: Opportunistic and Newly Emerging Parasites


Master of Pathology, MPath

Our department also offers a postgraduate program for medical doctors known as the Master of Pathology, Mpath. It is a 4-year in service training program and it is jointly
coordinated together with the Department of Pathology. It is an expertise program
that comprises 4 sub-disciplines such Anatomic Pathology, Haematology, Chemical
Pathology and Medical Microbiology. The program aims to produce competent
pathologists in the clinical diagnostic laboratoryservices in all Malaysian hospitals.
