After a Decade-Long Hiatus, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences Revives Research Week with Ground-breaking Interdisciplinary Event

The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) made a triumphant return to its research networking traditions by relaunching its flagship research event after a ten-year pause, rebranded as "FMHS Research, Innovation and Networking Week 2024 - FRINGE 2024". This momentous revival kicked off with an exciting treasure hunt challenge that transformed academic exploration into an interactive and thrilling investigative experience. The treasure hunt, titled "Finding Manita Raj," challenged participants to navigate through the entire faculty premises, solving intricate riddles that mapped out the mysterious disappearance of Manita. The hunt culminated in an exhilarating crime scene investigation scenario, where participants assumed the roles of forensic experts, meticulously examining evidence and attempting to identify the potential murderer. This innovative approach not only engaged participants in a dynamic learning environment but also signalled the faculty's renewed commitment to creative and immersive educational methodologies.

The subsequent days of the event were packed with a diverse series of academic forums, talks, and sharing sessions that addressed cutting-edge research domains. Distinguished experts and researchers delved into critical topics such as AI applications in academia, strategic AI integration in educational frameworks, intellectual property commercialization, and guidance on MJMHS article submissions and travel grant applications. A highlight of the event was the poster exhibition and competition, which provided a platform for researchers and postgraduate students to showcase their innovative research projects, enhance their presentation skills, and foster collaborative interactions. This initiative not only encouraged knowledge sharing but also created opportunities for potential research partnerships and trans-disciplinary collaborations.
A pivotal moment of the event was the prestigious Research Excellence Awards ceremony, which celebrated the outstanding achievements of researchers across various domains. The awards recognized exceptional contributions in multiple categories, including Best Researcher of 2023, High performance Researcher of 2023, Best Department in Research and Innovation and Special Award for Research and Innovation in Department Category, Innovation in Teaching and Learning 2024 and others. The award ceremony not only acknowledged individual and departmental achievements but also motivated researchers by highlighting the significance of innovative and impactful research in advancing medical and health sciences.

The closing ceremony, graced by the Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation, Professor Dr. Zamberi Sekawi celebrated the event's success and underscored its broader impact on academic research and professional development. Beyond networking and knowledge exchange, the FRINGE 2024 offered significant benefits including skill enhancement, interdisciplinary exposure, research visibility, and potential collaboration opportunities. Participants gained insights into emerging research trends, learned effective presentation strategies, and connected with potential mentors and collaborators. The event's unique blend of interactive challenges, academic discourse, and collaborative platforms demonstrated FMHS's progressive approach to research development, marking a powerful comeback after a decade-long absence and setting a new benchmark for academic engagement and innovation in the medical and health sciences domain.
