Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)

OVERVIEW

Doctor of Public Health Program is a full-time program for 3 years or 6 semesters. Each semester runs for 6 months or 24 weeks. The maximum period to graduation is 6 years or 12 semesters.

This program prepares public health professionals as a human resource with expertise in the field of public health. The program also provides an opportunity for public health professionals get special training to enhance their careers and meet the high demand for public and private sector for public health human resource professionals who have the expertise in the field of public health.

As a result, graduates of Doctor of Public Health is able to apply knowledge of public health, research and information technology to solve the problem of public health at the local, national and international levels.

 

CURRICULUM STRUCTURE

FIRST YEAR

First Semester (26 weeks):

  • Three core courses
  • Three research courses 

Second Semester (26 weeks):

  • Four Core Courses 
  • Two Research Courses  
  • Comprehensive Examination

 

Second Year 

Third Semester (26 weeks):

  • Two Research Courses  
  • Two Elective Courses 

Fourth Semester (26 weeks):

  • Public Health Clinical Training 
  • Two Research Courses 

 

Third Year

Fifth Semester (26 weeks):

  • Public Health Clinical Training  
  • Two Research Courses

Sixth Semester (26 weeks):

  • Two Research Courses

Total credit 

Over the course of 3 years, students are required to meet the minimum passing requirement of 96 credit hours.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have appropriate qualifications from a university recognized by UPM as follows:

  1. Possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS or MBBCh) or other equivalent medical degrees from any local or foreign university recognized by the Senate, AND
  2. Possess a Master of Public Health (MPH) or equivalent with a CGPA of not less than 3.2, AND
  3. Pass all core courses and the research component of the Master of Public Health (MPH) with a minimum score of 65% (Grade B), AND
  4. Have an Annual Practicing Certificate for local students. While for overseas students, they are required to submit equivalent documents for consideration by the Senate.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL CANDIDATES:

submit a document equivalent to the Annual Practicing Certificate for the Senate's consideration.
